Captain's Log: Top Five reasons to be a Con man 7/31/09

I was waiting for the buzz of San Diego Comic Con to die down before I selected a list of my favorite stories/ announcements, but this year was decidedly more difficult for me than any other. Which isn't suggesting that there was a lack of jaw dropping panels and prospective projects. In fact quite the opposite, Almost every panel was as impressive as the last. In layman's? 2010 and beyond are the years of the geek. So, before I bore you with seemingly superfluous superlatives, let me unveil the nitty gritty tid bits of that sent me spiraling like so many a football into science fiction heaven.

5.)The last LOST panel.

With the life span of THE GREATEST SHOW EVER(personal opinion) steadily diminishing with each passing month LOST Co-Creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse engaged in a spectacle that became the talk of the con. The LOST panel always provides a stellar performance for non fans and die hards alike, but this year, with the descending pendulum swinging above their collective noses, the cast focused on the fanatics. Invariably lots of cool shit went down( like Damon and Carlton writing the last scene of the finale and putting it in a lock box, only to be opened once the show ends. In attempt to prove that they've planned the epilogue from square one) but the most puzzling, and consequently my favorite, promo was this one

Did Jack's suicidal gambit pay off? Or did John Locke...sorry Jeremy Bentham...or rather the "nemesis" save the day? Stay tuned

4.) Bill Willingham on Angel

Since the demise of Angel a slew of pretenders have risen to usurp the position of television's most brooding vampire anit-hero( Let's all point our fingers at True Blood, and Twilight together!) The vampire with a soul retreated to the world most receptive to his offbeat escapades, comic books. To be perfectly honest Angel's foray into the four colored page, albeit successful, has been lackluster as best. However that is subject to change. Fables creator and multiple Eisner award winner Bill Willingham has kicked the dirt of his cleats and is ready to bat for the Whedonverse. Let's not vex children Fables will still come out on time. Speaking of Fables...

3.) The Vertigo Panel

Crack open any fortune cookie and you're bound to receive a prophetic slip of paper promising prosperity. Well it seems like the Vertigo offices really love Chinese food. After much speculation DMZ finally receives an end date at issue #70 with the final arcs beginning shortly. Fables also has reason to rejoice with several new spin off projects in the works. Including a long awaited Cinderella miniseries tilted "Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love" by Clockwork Storybook alum Chris Roberson. Aside from acting as a scribe to Fable town's sexy, foul mouthed, spy, princess; Roberson has a new ongoing planned with comic legend Mike Allred(Madman creator). The project known as "I Zombie" stars a girl named Gwen with a repulsive appetite for brains. After devouring the gray matter Gwen is subject to the person's memories and decides to give their death some finality by putting their unfinished affairs to rest. Allred and Roberson begrudgingly describe the book as "Zombie girl detective".

2.) NEW TRON!

Just...Just watch.
