Master scribe Brian K. Vaughan(Y the last man, Lost, Ex Machina) offers his opinion of Marvel and D.C comics...and they're pretty spot on.
" Marvel and DC are my divorced mom and dad. DC is my stable, loving, nurturing mom. Marvel is my weird dad who lives in a condo and doesn't know how to cook, but he'll let you stay up until three in the morning watching RoboCop 2."
Considering that two of the three works I cited for his "resume" above are D.C., and fucking brilliant at that, I think he's got the right idea.
